This is the detail that shapes what you should buy for the Shore. Beach access in New Jersey usually means a long walk down a boardwalk and across a wide dune path, with the cooler, the chairs, the bag and at least one child who has stopped walking.

That's the real argument against sandbag-base systems here. The base is the light part — the weight comes from sand you dig and load after you've already made the walk, then empty again before you make it back.

New Jersey Shore Shade Regulations

Several Shore towns — Asbury Park, Avon-by-the-Sea, Beach Haven, Long Branch and Belmar among them — have restricted or banned tents and canopies on the beach in recent years, with others limiting shade structures by size. The stated reasoning is usually crowding and lifeguard sightlines.

Don't Let the Breeze Fool You
